The southern end of Nippo Beach Park has a ria coastline with a varied landscape of beautiful sand and green pine trees, and Okuragahama Beach, selected as one of Japan's 100 best beaches, is famous among surfers from all over Japan as a warm and comfortable surf spot with high-quality waves throughout the year. Hyuga City is also known as the birthplace of Bokusui Wakayama, a popular poet who loved sake and travelling and wrote 8,700 poems in his life.
